Locke on the Sino-US trade deficit

Chinese Minister of Commerce, the United States the first Locke, May 27 in Los Angeles to accept the "Sing Tao Daily" reporters, talked about the huge US-China trade deficit causes and solutions, as well as he would visit China again this fall. The following points for interviews.

Reporter: For many years the US-China trade deficit remains high, what do you think causes?

Locke: Because the U.S. imports from China, a large number of commodities, and China from the United States to buy fewer products, caused by years on the huge US-China trade deficit.

Reporter: But the Chinese official said that because the United States do not want to high-tech products export to China, thereby giving rise to the US-China trade deficit.

Locke: No, this is not the real reason for causing the trade deficit. In addition to individual products, we are the majority of U.S. companies to export permits issued, as long as these companies are willing to export to China can export their products. Although in this respect we can improve, but the high-tech products export to China, the impact of US-China trade deficit is not the main reason.

Reporter: You can recommend the sale of those products to the Chinese?

Locke: The United States is the world's technology leaders, including efficient use of energy, a clean environment protection, health care and medicine in areas such as design and manufacturing, these technologies are also needed for the Chinese people. The United States can export to China products in this area. Can do, can not only raise the standard of living of the Chinese people, but also a significant reduction in US-China trade deficit. Furthermore, high-quality agricultural products rich in the United States, the United States is very well-developed agricultural, food exports to the United States can help China and many parts of the world people eat rice, but also to narrow the trade deficit.

Reporter: As the first Chinese Minister of Commerce, you will be how to promote US-China trade and exchange?

Locke: I will help U.S. companies sell their products, the United States had a lot of companies, the production of many fine products that are very much needed in China, from education to technology, from food to medicine, and computer software. If we can increase the output of these products to China, I believe will be able to meet the needs of the Chinese people to improve their standard of living, and for the United States the opportunity to create a lot of work.

Reporter: How to avoid trade protectionism?

Locke: all countries should avoid trade protectionism, whether in China, the United States or Europe, foreign trade is to help develop the economy, an important way to overcome the recession.

Reporter: Do you have any of the current visit to Beijing's plan?

Locke: Yes, I hope that in the autumn, on behalf of President Obama to visit China again, President Obama may also visit China in November this year to meet with Chinese leaders.
