Police in northeast China have arrested a taxi
driver suspected of raping and killing at least seven women - a serial
murder case that has horrified local people.
The driver, Da Li, was arrested after a nationwide manhunt, the East
Asia Economic News reported.
The women went missing near Baicheng rail station. They were raped and
murdered before their bodies were burned. Locals have been frightened of
taking taxi rides from the railway station as the disappearances mounted.
The case broke after a woman who disappeared two weeks ago sent a brief
text message to her mother with the license plate of the taxi she was
riding in. The mother reported to police after her daughter failed to
return.
