Earthquake Rocks Easternmost Indonesia

An earthquake with magnitude of 5.0 hit easternmost Indonesia on Monday, but no damage or casualty was reported, said a local meteorological agency.

 

The quake struck at 14:25 Jakarta time (0725GMT) with epicenter at 91 kilometers southwest Biak town of Papua province and at 30 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.

 

Indonesia lies in a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates meet, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia , causing frequent volcanic movements.
