Bangladesh National Airlines to Buy 8 Boeings

Bangladesh 's national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines will purchase eight Boeing aircraft at a cost of 1.265 billion U.S. dollars to revamp the country's lone dilapidated airlines.

Biman will sign an Memorandum of Understanding with Boeing representatives on March 15, Chief Advisor's special assistant for Civil Aviation Mahbub Zamil told reporters on Monday.

Presently, Biman has 11 wide bodied aircraft but only five or six are operating on international routes.

Of the eight Boeings, the first consignment of four aircraft will be arriving in 2013 and the second consignment in 2017.

Before arrival of the new aircraft, the Biman procures four Boeing aircraft on lease.

Biman which was a huge losing concern as a state-run national flag carrier was transformed into a public limited company in July last year.
