Nepali PM Calls Women to Participate Polls Actively

Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has appealed to all women sisters to make the April 10 Constituent Assembly (CA) elections successful, local newspaper The Rising Nepal reported on Saturday.

Prime Minister Koirala said women should cooperate and participate actively, as it was a historical opportunity associated with the prosperous present and future of the country.

In a message released on Friday on the occasion of the 98th International Women's Day, Prime Minister Koirala has said that the government had given special attention towards ensuring maximum participation of women at every level of the society and their highest contribution to nation building.

"The women community should take this effort of the Government as a positive achievement and give due attention towards increasing collaboration and cordiality in the country," Nepali Prime Minister said.

Stating that the uplift and development of any country relies on the active cooperation, participation and creativeness of the women community, the Prime Minister has said only a liberal democratic system could promote and protect the rights and well- being of the women, the underprivileged and indigenous nationalities.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Koirala has also wished "all sisters peace, continued progress and prosperity".

The Constituent Assembly to be formed through April 10 CA elections is to decide Nepal's future political set-up and the fate of the monarchy.
