Moderate Quake Hits Eastern Indonesia

An earthquake with magnitude of 5. 3 rocked eastern parts of Indonesia on Saturday morning, with no immediate report of damages or casualties, meteorology agency said.

The quake struck at 07:38 Jakarta time (0038 GMT) with epicenter at 103 km northwest Ternate of North Maluku province and at 32 km in depth, an official of the agency said.

Indonesia is laid at a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet, causing frequent volcanic movements.
